The City of Los Angeles is often known by its initials L.A. It is the most populous city in California and the second most populous city in the United States. With an estimated population of four million residents, the city is known for its Mediterranean climate and sprawling metropolis of 469 square miles.
Much of the city is located in the chaparral covered hill sides. The fire department is responsible for over 140,000 parcels located within CAL FIRE designated very high and high fire hazard severity zones. Managing and inspecting every parcel every year, on time with full compliance and cost recovery was a yearly challenge.
